The Reverend Dr. Charles S. G. Boayue, Jr.

The Mission Committee and the United Methodist Women sponsored this celebration with a focus on mission. Rev. Dr. Charles Boayue, Jr., guest speaker for Mission Celebration Sunday, is an alumnus and president of the class of 1978 of the College of West Africa, the oldest United Methodist school in West Africa, established in 1833 by the Reverend Melville B. Cox, the first Methodist Episcopal missionary to Africa from the Virginia Conference. Reverend Dr. Charles S. G. Boayue, Jr. received his education at the University of Liberia; Bethune-Cookman College (Daytona Beach, Florida); Florida Southern College (Lakeland); Duke University Divinity School (Durham, North Carolina), and United Theological Seminary (Dayton, Ohio). He holds the Bachelor of Science, Master of Business Administration, Master of Divinity, and Doctor of Ministry degrees.

Ordained Deacon in June 1991 and Elder in June 1993 in the Detroit Conference of The United Methodist Church, Rev. Boayue began his pastoral service in June 1989. He has served four appointments in the Detroit Conference:  Associate Pastor, Metropolitan UMC (1989 to 1992); Pastor, Detroit: Jefferson Avenue UMC (1991 to 1993); Associate Conference Council Director (1993 to 1999); and Senior Pastor, Second Grace UMC (1999 to present).

Reverend Boayue comes with vast experience and involvement in the global church and the ecumenical movement. Widely respected as a mission leader, he has taught in Schools of Christian Mission in the Detroit, Indiana, North Alabama and Texas conferences. He has traveled on every continent in the mission of the United Methodist Church. Reverend Boayue has been married since 1990 to Elizabeth and they are the proud parents of one son, Charles III. He comes to us this weekend in support of mission and to share in worship with his sister, Dr. Koh B. Boayue, who is a member of this congregation. He is pleased that his family could join him at Canfield United Methodist Church.
